Grateful To Give Thanks This Holiday

Campaign Blog » Be the First to Comment

I wish everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving and hope you’re able to celebrate with the people that are important to you. Thanksgiving is a time in which we reflect on the many things we are grateful for. I am so thankful for my family and friends and the blessings bestowed upon me. I am also thankful for living in our great country and the opportunity to serve as a Congressman. I am very grateful to all the patriots who have defended American freedom and protected our nation. During Thanksgiving, I have always tried to ‘give thanks’ by giving back to my community. This year is no different. I encourage anyone who is considering volunteerism this holiday season to do so. It’s fun and makes a difference. On Wednesday, I’m joining several friends in handing out Thanksgiving dinners to families in need in Indianapolis. On Thursday, I’m volunteering for the annual Mozel Sanders Thanksgiving Dinner, which is expected to serve 40,000 meals. On Friday, I return to campaign mode and am shaking hands with early morning shoppers at the Wal-Mart on Lafayette Road. Thank You To Our Brave Veterans

Campaign Blog » Be the First to Comment

DefendtheFlagAs we honor our heroes on this Veterans Day, thank you to all who have protected our country and preserved the freedoms and liberties Americans are so lucky to possess. Freedom is not free, and many lives have been lost to secure the United States and its allies. Colin Powell once remarked: ”Over the years, the United States has sent many of its fine young men and women into great peril to fight for freedom beyond our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for in return is enough to bury those that did not return.” Indeed, America has always lead humanity’s fight to secure freedom and democracy – this is our veterans’ legacy to us and the World. I ask that you join me in thanking veterans today for their service and sacrifice. I deeply appreciate my family members, friends and all Americans who have served our country. As your Congressman, I will fight for increases in veterans’ benefits and will help ensure that the American military is the most well-equipped and best-trained in the World.

Carson’s Priorities Wrong Re: Ft. Hood

The current Congressman for the Seventh District, Andre Carson, was recently interviewed by the Associated Press regarding the terrible tragedy at Fort Hood. In the article, Carson, who is one of two Muslims in Congress, cautions against focusing on the alleged shooter’s religion and instead said the discussion should be about mental health issues. Carson says: “This is no way a reflection of Islam any more than Timothy McVeigh’s actions are a reflection of Christianity.” Carson’s statement linking Timothy McVeigh with Nidal Hassan is misleading and irresponsible. The May Campaign joins the Indianapolis community in rejecting any linkage between murder and Islam, whatsoever. However, for Carson to dismiss the facts pointing to Hassan’s associations with Anwar al-Awlaki, a radical cleric who knew three of the 9/11 hijackers, and Hassan’s association with him going back to 2001 as mere mental illness is troubling. Carson is representing the twelfth largest city in the U.S., and is a former employee of IDHS who should be leading the effort for a thorough Congressional investigation.

Jobs And Investment For Central Indiana

Campaign Blog » On the Issues » Be the First to Comment

The top issue in this Congressional election is the economy. Actions must be taken to promote economic growth and job creation. History shows us that the best way to grow the economy and create jobs is to: limit the size of government, cut taxes and give businesses the opportunity to compete on a level playing field. I support economic growth principles such as reducing the role of federal government in industry; lowering taxes on families and businesses; and aggressively seeking to open markets and sign trade agreements. It is also important that America develop a comprehensive national energy policy that will allow us to be less dependent on foreign sources of energy and reduce high costs. In addition, as your Congressman I will work tirelessly to recruit new businesses and investment to Central Indiana, being a loud and pro-active voice for our region. One thing is for sure: the current policies of firing up the printing press and throwing trillions of dollars at the recession is not the proper way to get us out. In fact, these irresponsible borrow-and-spend policies are ultimately going to force huge tax increases and trigger inflation.
